ABOUT ADOPTION

Parenthood is one of life’s biggest and most rewarding decisions. Adoption is a journey, during which there are both joys and challenges. There are many different paths and stages within the adoption process. We hope that with our support, your journey will be a little bit easier.

PUBLIC / GOVERNMENT ADOPTION

Child and Family Services facilitates adoption of (typically older) children of 3-18 years old in government (foster) care.

KINSHIP ADOPTION

Facilitated by Child and Family Services, Kinship is the adoption of a child in care, by a family member or someone they have an existing relationship with.

PRIVATE DOMESTIC / INFANT ADOPTION

Adoption of an infant who has been surrendered by the birth parents. This is facilitated through a private agency.

DIRECT PLACEMENT / PRIVATE DIRECT ADOPTION

When a biological parent places their child directly into the care of someone they know. This is facilitated through a private agency and then Child & Family Services.

INTERNATIONAL ADOPTION

Adoption of children (typically infants or toddlers) from outside of Canada. This is facilitated through a private agency and then Child & Family Services.

WHO WE ARE

When facing the unique challenges of adoption, it's not uncommon for families to feel isolated and in need of support. At FACES, we work to connect adoptive parents to one another and to community partners, with a goal of creating a community that supports families throughout the span of the adoption process. For us, that includes the moment that adoption is considered, through to placement, finalized adoptions, and far beyond.

HOW WE CAN HELP

The adoption process has many different stages. It is often helpful to have support from people who are also navigating through the process, or those who have already experienced the challenges and joy that come from expanding your family, through adoption.
